Talk2theAnimals Animal of the Week

by Janet on August 30, 2010

A strong, majestic creature has proudly stepped forward to lead us on our journey this week. Elk is one of the largest mammals in North America and one of the largest species of deer in the world. When Elk appeared, I couldn’t help but be reminded of the advertising slogan: “When E.F. Hutton talks, people listen.”  So it is with Elk.

Elk radiates stamina, strength and nobility. Pacing ourselves is a very important aspect of life, and one that is mostly forgotten in our society. Elk’s appearance reminds us that while we may not be the first to reach a destination, we will reach it and will do so with plenty of energy remaining. Consistency and steadiness is what counts.

Usually staying in herds of their own gender, Elk reminds us that we don’t have to do things ourselves, there is someone/something who is willing to help us. We just need to be able to ask for the help.

To sustain our energy and pace ourselves, Elk prompts us to eat energy foods and take proper care of ourselves.

Questions to ask when Elk appears:

  • Have I been too solitary?
  • Is my diet what my body requires?
  • Do I require extra strength or stamina for a project?

Thank you Elk, for coming forth and guiding us today. Your lessons are important, and not ones that we always hear in our culture. For your guidance and leadership, your willingness to share, we are grateful.

Harmony,

Janet Roper
