Talk2theAnimals Weekly Book Discovery

by Janet on August 4, 2010

What do you do when your beloved dog incurs a spinal injury that leaves her paralyzed? If you’re Barbara Techel, you have Frankie custom-fitted for a wheelchair, teach her to use it, and then you and Frankie go on to share the story with thousands upon thousands of people in the book ‘Frankie the Walk ‘N Roll Dog‘.

Karen Keys, a teacher and librarian in Canada says:

“Frankie the Walk ‘N Roll Dog is a wonderful story that will warm your heart, make you laugh and cry.  It is a story of courage, devotion and about never giving up. Children and adults will learn a lot about animals with disabilities and about the true meaning of compassion.  If you are an animal lover, you must not miss this book!”

Barbara and Frankie routinely volunteer as a therapy dog team at a local hospital, senior assisted facility and hospice community, encouraging others that no matter our challenges, we can each give back in our own, unique way.

You’ll be able to hear Barbara talk about her and Frankie’s story live on Talk2theAnimalsRadio on Thursday, 8/5 at 1PM CST.

Janet Roper

One Nation Under Dog by Michael Schaffer is a great study of 21st Century pet owners, including everything from pet spas, trainers, and even anti-depressants.  The focus is primarily on Schaffer’s family and his dog Murphy, but he also focuses on dogs in general and the way their humans pamper them.

One Nation Under Dog is [...]

This is Emmie, the main character in the Chicken Carcass Caper.  The other morning I was cooking breakfast, left the room for less than five minutes, and heard the sounds of dropping and crunching. By the time I returned, the kitchen had turned into a crime scene.  The garbage container had been knocked over & [...]
