Talk2theAnimals Animal of the Week

Mongoose has shown up this week to share his wisdom with us. You might remember Mongoose as a main character in Kipling’s short story Rikki-Tikki-Tavi.
Mongoose reminds us to stand strong and defend ourselves when necessary. When we need to defend ourselves, Mongoose asks us to do it with absolute courage, integrity and openness. When [...]

Communicating with ‘Killer’ Whales

I do not like the term ‘killer’ whales. IMO, that says much more about the humans that apply it than the animals it is applied to. I mean, anytime the word ‘killer’ is said, it’s only applied to the bad guys. Good vs. bad. Them against us. Anytime there is a division, there is an [...]

Animal Communication and Springtime

Ah, spring is right around the corner. After all the gray, misty, rainy days are finished in Minnesota, we will be rewarded with daffodils. I can’t wait.
I’m hearing more birds singing, too. Spring is definitely in the air.
Here’s an animal communication game you can play when you’re outside. Be aware of the first animal that [...]

The Finless Porpoise – Celebrity of the Sea

Marked by its lack of a dorsal fin, this playful but shy mammal instead sports a ridge.
They live in small groups of about five to ten porpoises, called schools, or pods.
The finless porpoise has been placed on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.

Inside of a Dog: What Dogs See, Smell, and Know
I haven’t read this book yet, but it’s on my to-read-soon-list.
Psychology professor, dog lover and author Alexandra Horowitz conducted an eight year study and discovered our dogs know us much better than we know them.
This book is not intended to be a scientific study, but rather [...]

Grieving the Loss of Your Pet TeleConference

The death of a pet is difficult to take in, even in the best of circumstances. When we are asked “it was just an animal, why are you so upset?”, we can begin to stuff our own grief, to even begin to doubt the rationality of our grief.
It doesn’t have to be like that. Our [...]
